We painted Jerusalem at the Janice Charach gallery to celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut and Israel's 75th birthday in spring of 2023. Children were led step by step in capturing Jerusalem on canvas and acrylic.
Teaching groups and birthday parties can even bend into the wind of Jewish art, by considering the tree and its symbolism to Jewish thought.
With my first grade religious school students we listened to music by Jewish musician George Gershwin, and then we learned how to make movement and rhythmic lines reflect the music.

Jewish art can be focused on the religious practices and values, and it can also be a personal picture from a family dinner, a memory of a loved one who helped you understand your heritage, or a collective memory you dig into by way of paint and canvas.

Graphic story telling can appeal to those of us who are comfortable with words more than pictures. Using photographs to help create imagery and then making our stories of our lives into graphics is a way to connect to our hidden narratives.
